The End of Winter also brings the end to my Winter Workout Challenge. And what an interesting Winter it has been... and spring should be just as interesting with these allergies. With the help of my inhaler, I was able to get 50 miles on the bike and 45 minutes of stretching. Much better, but not exactly where I wanted to be this time of the year. Will have to do some catching up.
The Winter Workout Challenge Winner: I have had a very dedicated reader/commenter who has done an excellent job this winter working out and encouraging everyone. So the Winner for this year goes to Kathleen! Thank you so much for all your encouraging words! You're awesome! I'll send the REI gift card your way soon!
My goals for Spring: At least 50 miles/week on the bike. Start jogging as soon as I'm able to breathe outside. And do at least one Time Trial (VBC).
My goals for Summer: At least 60 mile/week on the bike and/or jogging 6-10 miles/week. Get to PIR for at least two races.
What about you? (For those who haven't shared in the comments yet.)
I'll be blogging sporadically and sharing when special things come up, but not every week. I hope you keep in touch and we keep encouraging each other as the weather gets better...
Best Spring wishes!
Mom On Bike (M.O.B.)

Week 12: Last week of the Challenge.
My Music: Chocolate, by Snow Patrol.
It has been another tough week, unable to workout. I spent the week figuring out why I can't breathe normal. The Dr. said it was a wheeze (not pneumonia or whatever else), so I have an inhaler now and yesterday I realized I had pretty much every symptom of allergies. So I now hate the pretty trees I used to love with all those lovely pink and white blossoms... the ones blooming all over right now, everywhere I go...
I managed a couple days of Yoga, but that's it.
My goal this week: Get control of my allergies and asthma. And hopefully get on the bike - inside where there are no trees flowering and where I have quick access to a rescue inhaler.
Goals for the week? Goals for Spring? Goals for Summer?
I have some. I'll share my goals for Spring and Summer next week, and hope you'll set some too...

Week 11
Music: Sunshine by Stellar Kart (very appropriate, imho.)
This is a short post, a sad post. I'm still coughing. I have Dr.'s appointment and hope to get over this so I can get back to riding. ASAP! I'm going a bit nutty not being able to exercise, but don't have the energy for it and end up coughing too hard anyhoo. So that is my quick update for the week.
My goal for Week 11: To get better.
How 'bout you?

Where was I? ...Week 10!
My (much needed) Motivational Music: Let it Go by Tenth Avenue North (my new favorite band!).
Okay, so I apologize for my lack of blogging. Illness has been a factor, but more-so was my lack of sleep. Kids don't sleep well when they're sick, so therefore parents don't either. That is my excuse this time anyway, take-it-or-leave-it.
I was doing good until this past week, when I caught the cough and had no energy to do more than the basic necessities to keep my kids and household fed and alive. Since my brain is still foggy from this bug, I'm going to fore-go my normal report on my past workouts and head into...
My goals for Week 10:
50 miles on the bike
2-4 mile job or hike with kids (to get out and enjoy the hopefully beautiful sunshine! Crossing my fingers.)
Stretch half hour
Core, always more core! (I'm so bad at this!)
I still have cough, so I'm going to go with how my body feels, but if I don't make the goals and post them, I more-than-likely won't do much of anything.
What are your goals this week? This spring?
Anyone have any motivational, fun ideas for doing core? I'd love to hear them!

Week 7
My Motivational Music: Wow by Snow Patrol.
Doing pretty good.
I got my 60 miles done and road pretty hard and pretty fast. I'm getting excited that my legs are actually getting stronger! Imagine that! I ride consistently and I get stronger, what'ya know!
I did Yoga with the kids and did about twenty minutes of core. That's all I could muster with all the miles on the bike.
This week:
Another 60 mile week on the bike.
Core, core, core! I need to do core strength workouts, so my focus will be on sit-ups, and everything else I can think of to work those middle muscles.
How about YOU?

Week 6
My Motivational Music: Listen by Michelle Tumes
(reminds me to listen to my body and not overdo it!)
We're halfway there! Six more weeks of my Winter Challenge!
So I did good getting on the bike, but the videos just didn't happen this week.
I managed 65 miles on the bike, which is great, in my humble opinion (imho, if you're a texter)!
However, the yoga and pilates videos didn't even move out of the drawer.
I was forced to do some stretching so I could actually get up and walk, since I'm starting to increase my speed. For the first time since before my daughter was born (she's three), I can manage a 20 mph pace on the bike trainer for an hour. We'll see what that means on the road as soon as it stops raining and I get outside (Yes, I'm a fair-weather rider. But I have the excuse that I don't have any decent rain pants. Right!?).
My goals this week:
60 miles on the bike
Yoga (either with a video or on my own.)
Half hour of Strength training (Pilates, weights at the gym, core - I'm leaving it open. I'm just that way.)
What are you up to?
And as my hubby keeps reminding lately (quoting one of my favorite Disney characters):
"Just keep swimming, just keep swimming..."
(reminds me to listen to my body and not overdo it!)

Week 5
My Motivational Music: Me Against the World by Superchicks.
(Appropriate for the week since I feel somewhat deflated by life today).
I managed to meet my goal last week of 50 miles. Hooray! Considering the head cold wiped me out until wednesday, I'm happy. Very happy.
Honestly, I lost track of how many minutes of core I ended up doing, but I think I managed 30 minutes of stretching, however spontaneous and sporadic it was. I will continue to work on that.
My goals for this week:
60 miles on the bike.
1 Yoga video (i.e. stretching)
1 Pilates video (core, stretching and strength.)
How are you doing and hope to hear your goals!
